While this is the fantasy of most Pokefans, it’s been impossible to really achieve on a satisfying scale… until now. Pokemon battles will be merging with the Tekken fighting-game style to create Pokken Tournament, every real-life Trainer’s steamy dream.

This game will function in real-time, meaning that you will have to dodge and curate moves to your pocket-monster pal at a moment’s notice. No more of that turn-based nonsense (though, admittedly, it was quite fun). Pokken Tournament will be the most realistic Pokemon experience yet.

Right now, the roster only includes a small number of Pokemon available, and half of those are simply as support characters to be called out for a little assistance mid-fight. Here’s the skinny on the roster:

Main characters

Lucario Machamp Suicune Gardevoir Pikachu Gengar Weavile Charizard Blaziken Pikachu Libre

Support characters

Emolga Fennekin Snivy Frogadier Eevee Lapras Whimsicott Jirachi

While the game is out in arcades across Japan (those lucky son-of-a-guns!), the rest of the world will have to wait until it comes out on the Wii U in the second quarter of next year (2016).

…how will I last that long?!
