It exists out in the world as a Technical Machine (TM), and while it’s not easy to reach nor is it available too early, once you have it, you can craft it with Pokemon materials. You can also earn the ability to craft the Flamethrower TM much later in the story if you don’t happen upon it earlier on.
We’ll cover how to get the Flamethrower TM in this guide, its location on the map, and how to earn its blueprint.
How to Get the Flamethrower TM in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet
The first of two ways to get Flamethrower is once you unlock the Swimming ability by defeating the Open Sky Tita and the high jump upgrade by defeating the Lurking Steel Titan.
Make your way northwest of the Great Crater of Paldea to the city of Medali. The TM you’re looking for is southwest of the city on the cliffs.
To get it early, you’ll need to go far to the north and wind your way near the edge of the crater.
You’ll see a trainer near a rock and an item shining nearer the rock. That item is Flamethrower.
The other way to unlock the ability to craft Flamethrower will take you significantly longer. Once you defeat the final Team Star Boss on that quest’s critical path, Eri, who trains Fighting types, you unlock Flamethrower whether you found the TM or not.
It’s a much harder ask, as Eri’s team is levels 55 ~ 56, with both her Annihilape and Starmobile being at the upper limit. You won’t reach those levels until at least after defeating all eight Gym Leaders and doing some additional grinding on your way to the Elite Four.
Once you can craft Flamethrower, you’ll need the following materials to make even one of them:
5 Litleo Tuft for catching or knocking out Litleo or Pyroar 3 Houndour Fangs from catching or knocking out Houndour or Houndoom 3 Numel from catching or knocking out Numel or Camerupt
As a 95 Power attack with 100% Accuracy in the Fire Type, there aren’t many times when having a Flamethrower won’t be useful.
