A fresh peek inside Just Cause 3
Nathan Ditum and David Johnson of PlayStation Access lead viewers from one side of the open world map to the other via helicopter, sea plane, and hijacked speedboat. The journey takes the vague 400 square mile value and puts its explosive playground into perspective. Admittedly, the duo won’t show you EVERYTHING, partially because “the map is flipping huge” and partially because fans still need a reason to buy the game. Being handed all the juicy deets pre-launch rarely serves in a game’s best interest, so its best to take an enhanced peek and leave it at that.
The map truly is an experience in its own right, given both its mass and stunningly diverse scenery. Developers aimed to take the expansive size of Just Cause 2 and add a sense of density to it.
That said, the video goes beyond Rico Rodriguez simply flying about and taking in the sights (which doesn’t fit his destructive M.O. anyway). Ditum and Johnson’s conversation touches on map navigation, reading the color-coded legend, and the mechanics behind helicopter control.
In addition to basic exploration, two different vehicle swaps occur, mostly due to Ditum really wanting a boat. Johnson also plays the missile-wielding bully with a bridge before letting the Wingsuit and Grappling Hook get in on the fun, allowing players see what a smooth transition between tools might look like.
A chance to grapple in early
For those who pre-ordered Just Cause 3 from the PlayStation Store, the pre-load went live November 29th. While the initial download size stands at 6 GB, the full game requires a total of about 40 GB of space.
Be warned: Just Cause 3’s first patch comes straight out of the box/digital download. The day one patch eats up less than 2.8 GB while attacking map bugs, vehicle glitches, camera fixes, destruction and graphic optimizations, and more. Those all sound pretty important, so I guess the patch falls into the “absolute necessity” category of things.
One audio fix addresses basic conversational etiquette: “Rebels riding along with Rico will now be less rude and not talk over each other.” It’s the little things that count, ya know?
For everyone not enjoying the PlayStation pre-load, Just Cause 3 launches on PS4, Xbox One, and PC this Tuesday, December 1st.
What are your thoughts on the map? Are you excited to check out Medici on your own terms? Have you already beaten us to the punch with a pre-load? Tell us in the comments, or Grapple Hook your way on outta here if you’d prefer.
